Aquannette Chinnery of JDNatlady's Creations, St. Thomas, VI, who makes handmade soaps, bath and body products, hair products, and high-quality Caribbean skincare
Hi, I am Aquannette Chinnery of JDNatlady's Creations. My road to making handmade soaps, hair products, and bath and body products had its roots in my childhood where my creativity and love of science began.  I was hooked on science from the time I got my first chemistry set and later a microscope.  As a child I knitted and crocheted, made all sorts of arts and crafts, and danced with our local dance company here on St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.  Skipping high school allowed me to graduate from college with a B.A. in Chemistry at age 18 after having also taken most of the biology courses offered.  At age 18, I entered graduate school for a doctoral program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology ("MIT") and earned my M.S. in Biochemistry from MIT.  I worked in a medical school lab on the mainland before returning home where my last job using my education and experience as a scientist was managing the science labs for the University of the Virgin Islands, my alma mater.  I went on to become a radio and television personality and later went into public relations after a hurricane hit our Virgin Islands taking with it my jobs.  I had no way of knowing that many years later my science background would play such an important role in helping me to formulate and create products that so many have come to desire and love.
When I started wearing my hair natural again in 2008, I began making my own products and using the name JDNatlady (pronounced jay-dee-nat-lady) on my blog and in online groups.  Fast forward to 2011 when I had by that time spent around 15 years enjoying my career as an attorney, I realized that a passion for making handmade hair products that started a few years before had blossomed into the need to start a business that included many of my creative pursuits, which included having been in business as a professional model, artist (painter), singer/songwriter and recording artist, and also having been a creator of jewelry and of knitted and crocheted accessories.
In October 2011, JDNatlady's Creations, LLC was created and I immediately began creating soaps, hair products, and bath and body products and other handmade items out of the workshop/lab/retail shop at Fortress Mall on St. Thomas.  Business took off right away and a loyal following developed here in the Virgin Islands and later online when the Etsy shop was opened that allowed me to sell my products worldwide and then also on JDNatlady's Creations standalone online store.  The Etsy shop with its over 100 reviews and over 400 sales remains open with limited stock..

Point Pleasant Resort guest soaps made by JDNatlady's Creations

A few years ago, JDNatlady's Creations became the supplier of the very popular guest room soaps for Point Pleasant Resort on St. Thomas, which has led to lots of happy customers who buy full sized soaps from the lobby shop there to take back as gifts or for their own use and later they reorder online from JDNatlady's Creations.  We appreciate being able to continue supplying guest room soaps to this well-known, popular resort.  Handmade soaps by JDNatlady's Creations are sold here in the Virgin Islands at local boutiques, a local bookstore, gourmet markets, a health food store, a local pharmacy, and hotel gift shops.  JDNatlady's Creations is also a regular vendor at many popular festivals and fairs and other special events in the Virgin Islands.
At the end of November 2019, the physical location at Fortress Mall closed after operating in that same location for over 8 years, but the business continues providing lots of shopping opportunities for customers.  At the end of December 2019, its founder, Aquannette Chinnery, retired from her job as an Assistant Attorney General at the Virgin Islands Department of Justice and has changed the business model for JDNatlady's Creations with a focus on expanding the number of locations both in the Virgin Islands and elsewhere that the products are available.   You may shop in this online store, in the Etsy shop,  and other vending venues on St. Thomas, VI, and at select retailers throughout the Virgin Islands and in several places on the U.S. mainland. By participating in NYNOW in August 2018, February 2019, and August 2019, we were able to begin expanding our presence by getting our products ordered by several brick-and-mortar retailers on the US mainland.

There are many more products available from JDNatlady's Creations that are not currently available online.  We are always adding more of those products to the online store so please keep checking back regularly.  Due to COVID-19, JDNatlady’s Creations will not be participating in any shows, festivals, or in-person vending events at this time.
